Australia became the first team in history to regain the ICC Champions Trophy on Monday.5 October.
The boys from down under defeated New Zealand by six wickets in final to take the coveted title and this year`s bragging rights. Shane Watson followed up his brilliant semi-final century against England with yet another match-winning hundred as he steered Australia to victory.
New Zealand closed on 200-9 off 50 overs in their knock. But Australia, chasing 201 for victory, slipped to six for two before Watson guided them to victory with 105 not out off 129 balls, following his 136 not out in the semi-final against England..
`I`m ecstatic to win a tournament as big as this one, it`s the second biggest one, there`s nothing else outside the World Cup. It`s a very special achievement and a massive positive after the ups and downs of the last 18 months,` Aussie Skipper, Ricky Ponting said.
